About Piano Skool

Hi, I'm Stacey!

I teach adults to actually play the piano.

Not boring method books. Not another app you'll abandon.

Real music, both hands together, taught and personally reviewed by a classically-trained pianist. Most students start with 3 songs in their first 7 days, then 4 full pieces over 100 days.

[my story] From a field outside Chicago to a studio in Manhattan.

  • I grew up just outside Chicago, Illinois — a farmer's daughter who spent her summers picking rocks out of a field. Piano started as a hobby, but somewhere in between I wanted to find out how far I could go.

  • At 22, I moved to New York City to earn my Master of Music in piano performance from the Manhattan School of Music — one of the world's leading conservatories. I opened my teaching studio on Manhattan's Upper West Side, released my first album (it's since passed 18 million streams on Spotify), and even met my husband through a piano cover I posted online. Piano, it turns out, was the common denominator.

  • But the work I care about most has never happened on a stage. For more than fifteen years I've taught adults — complete beginners and returning players — and I've watched smart, motivated people stall for the same reason: not lack of talent, but lack of sequence. Nobody gave them a clear plan, and nobody was watching their playing to tell them what to fix next.

"For most adults I teach, this isn't about becoming a concert pianist. It's about one song that matters — for a person, an occasion, a memory. You don't need talent for that. You need the right next step."

  • That's why I built Piano Skool: the structured, classically-grounded path I wish every one of my students had found on day one.

Not sure if the 7‑Day Kickstart is too basic?

Common Questions

Is Piano Skool right for me?

Am I too old to learn piano?

No. Adults aren't behind — most have just been using the wrong system. Adult brains are wired for focused, goal-driven learning, and Piano Skool is built for people with real jobs and families, not for children. Students in their 20s through their 70s learn with this method every day.

Do I need talent or a musical background?

You don't. Music isn't magic — it's patterns and principles you learn step by step. I grew up in a small town with no musical family. What matters isn't talent; it's a clear sequence and someone watching your playing to tell you what to fix next.

Who actually teaches the lessons?

I do — Stacey Bassetti. Every lesson and all personal feedback comes from me, a pianist with a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music and 15+ years teaching adults — not an app, an algorithm, or a channel of one-off tutorials.

How long until I'm playing real songs?

You play a real song in your first week of the free Piano Kickstart. The 100-Day Roadmap then takes a complete beginner to confident, intermediate-level pieces — hands together — over 100 days, at about 20–30 focused minutes a day. Individual results vary.

What if I don't have a real piano yet?

A full acoustic piano is wonderful, but not required to start. Many students begin on an 88-key digital keyboard with weighted keys and a sustain pedal. Inside the free Kickstart, I show you exactly what to look for and how to set it up, so you can grow into a real piano later if you choose.

There's so much in there — isn't it overwhelming?

It's the opposite, because it's sequenced for you. You're only ever on today's step: a lesson, then practice —> about 30 minutes total. Every day mixes a little new material with review, every 7th day is a catch-up day, and there's one clear goal at a time. The library is deep so you never outgrow it, but you only ever see the next step.

How is this different from apps like Synthesia?

Falling notes can help with timing, but they won't teach technique, fingering, interpretation, or freedom at the keys. Piano Skool teaches you to actually read and play music with proper technique, so you can eventually learn any piece on your own, not just mimic one song.

Results vary based on practice, consistency, and prior experience.

Piano Skool provides educational piano training only.
